St Stephen’s Church Shines Bright with New Lighting in Redditch Town Centre
One of Redditch Town Centre’s most recognisable landmarks has been given a new lease of life after dark, thanks to a stunning new architectural lighting scheme at St Stephen’s Church.
Situated in the heart of Church Green, St Stephen’s Church is an important part of Redditch’s history and character. The new lighting showcases the building’s distinctive architecture, creating an impressive focal point for residents, businesses and visitors to enjoy.
The project has been funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) and delivered by Redditch Borough Council in partnership with Redditch BID.
Listening to Local Businesses
The improvements follow feedback from town centre businesses, who highlighted the need for better lighting around Church Green.
Working alongside Redditch Borough Council, Redditch BID has helped bring these improvements to life, demonstrating how listening to local businesses can lead to positive changes across the town centre.
The new energy efficient lighting has been carefully positioned to highlight the church’s architectural features while minimising unnecessary light spill.
As well as enhancing the appearance of Church Green, the lighting helps create a brighter, more welcoming environment for everyone visiting the area.
Bringing Colour to Redditch Town Centre
One of the most exciting features of the new lighting is its ability to change colour.
This means St Stephen’s Church can be illuminated in different colours to mark special occasions, support awareness campaigns and celebrate community events throughout the year.
It is a fantastic way to bring more colour and character to Redditch Town Centre while celebrating one of its most recognisable landmarks.
Supporting a Brighter, More Welcoming Town Centre
The improvements are about more than simply enhancing the appearance of the church.
Better lighting around Church Green can help improve perceptions of safety, create a more welcoming atmosphere and contribute to ongoing efforts to discourage antisocial behaviour.
The project also supports wider efforts to make Redditch Town Centre an attractive place to visit, encouraging people to explore the local shops, cafés, restaurants and other businesses.
By continuing to invest in our public spaces, we can help create an environment where local businesses can thrive and visitors feel encouraged to spend more time in the town centre.
When Will the Lights Be On?
The new lighting will operate daily during the following hours:
Morning: 6am to 9.15am
Afternoon and evening: 3.30pm to midnight
The system uses photocell technology, ensuring the lights only switch on when it is sufficiently dark.
Working Together for Redditch
At Redditch BID, supporting local businesses and helping to improve the town centre remains at the heart of what we do.
The new lighting at St Stephen’s Church is a great example of how partnership working, combined with feedback from local businesses, can deliver meaningful improvements for the wider community.
By celebrating our town’s heritage, enhancing public spaces and continuing to work together, we can help make Redditch Town Centre an even more welcoming and attractive place for everyone.
